This was a commissioned piece for a cosplayer that wanted to enter a contest for an original outfit. The outfit had to tell a story and feature embroidery and prop design.
I came up with the idea of showing the life of perseverance through a Chinese dragon. In mythology they start as just regular carp fish. They continuously keep struggling to climb a water fall. Once they reach the top they become dragons! We wanted to place layers of tulle and lace to show the waterfalls the carp at the bottom have to climb, and a single dragon shoulder pad to show not everyone can make it.
The dagger would be worn around the leg or waist and it features a carp. The fan which controls the air is dragon themed.
